The QED QX16/4 LSZH is a high performance installation 4-core speaker cable with the extra feature of a Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH, but also known as LSOH, LS0H, LSFH, and OHLS) fire rated outer sheath. It is designed to deliver good levels of audio performance in audio installations, whether this is a new house build with home cinema room, or large commercial building with integrated sound and communication systems.
Low Smoke Zero Halogen cable reduces the amount of toxic and corrosive gas emitted during combustion. This type of material is typically used in poorly ventilated areas such as aircraft and large commercial building wiring spaces and reduces the chance of toxic gasses accumulating in these areas should the wires be damaged by fire or a short circuit fault. LSZH is becoming quite popular and, in some cases, a specific requirement where the protection of people and equipment from toxic and corrosive gas is critical like large commercial buildings, busy call centres, etc.. LSH is also the ONLY cable that meets the legislated fire specifications for boat/marine installations.
QED don't just use a fire rated jacket material over an ordinary cable assembly; each complete cable design including jacket and all internal conductors has to undergo rigorous fire safety testing to the following standards:
Measurement of smoke density of cables burning
under defined conditions.
Test for vertical flame propagation for a single insulated wire or cable.
(Amendment1, 1997) test on gas evolved during combustion of electric cables.
RoHS 2 (2002/95/EC)
(Amendment 2011/65/EU) directive on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.
The QED Pro LSZH Declaration of Conformity can be requested.
The cable is a circular configuration finished with high visibility, Pink LSZH outer jacket. The inner 4 x stranded conductors are made from 30 x 0.26mm strands and are individually insulated in colour coded sheaths to assist installers connecting the correct polarity. The Pink outer jacket is sequentially metre marked also to assist installers finding the correct length or feeding the appropriate amount of cable for larger installations.
Large cross sectional area of high purity copper conductors ensures good performance levels are maintained - even on longer runs
